Welcome

Hi everyone,

This is my second blog. I just started my first one a couple of weeks ago and I already could see the benfits of blogging. That blog focused on my weight loss journey and this is going to focus on slimming and eventually eliminating my debt. I hope that putting my finances out there will help me stay on track and keep me accountable much in the same way my other blog has done for me.

I have been reading a lot of blogs recently - most personal finance or PF blogs. Some of the ones i enjoy reading the most have been bloggingawaydebt, debthater, mydebtblog and debtkid. One thing I have noticed from these blogs (and lots of others) has been that there is a small relationship with having too much debt and carrying too many pounds on your body. I think it boils down to this - we get into debt because we spend more than we make and we add weight because we eat more than we should. In the end it all boils down to simple mathematics. Here’s to ending the cycle.

I think it is fitting that I am setting out to do this as the new year approaches. I am a single female who just moved to the great big apple and I am tired of having debt. I want to be able to go out and buy clothes (that fit) and not worry about making payments. Living in the city has it’s own unique challenges (rent is WHAT?) but I would not feel as bogged down if I didn’t have so much debt to pay.

I will give more precise details but as of right now, let’s just say I have about $72,000 worth of debt in credit cards and student loans (most of it is credit card though). I am only 23. I have not bought a house or anything substantial. I think I must have been smoking some hallucinatory drugs!!

Like I said, I will be giving more details in the days to come and I hope to receive some wonderful feedback and tough love as I have seen other bloggers have.

Cheers

  1. Heya, I'm the complete opposite. I have picked up almost 10kg (20 pounds) since I've been getting out of debt. When I was getting into it, I was always inspired (and had money) to eat healthy. Now with a food budget I eat lots of carbs and I can't afford gym membership. I have taken every spare sent to pay into getting debt free. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to read your blog!
